Training

KACCA is offering free training to all animal control and animal sheltering agencies in the Commonwealth. Each user must agree to the Terms of Use when registering.

Currently there are two programs available. The first is the Animal Care Technician program which is a basic introduction to animal care and kennel maintenance. The second is a basic Animal Control Officer training program. The Basic ACO program is designed around the Kentucky Animal Control Officer Training manual created by KACCA and approved by the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board.

Sign up is easy. Simply press the “Register Today”” button at the bottom right corner of the page and submit the form. You will be emailed a link to create an account. There is a test at the end of each program. Pass it and we will send you a certificate of completion!

Be sure to BOOKMARK this page and you can access the training program by pressing clicking here.

Who can sign up?
Any person employed by or contracted to provide animal control or animal sheltering services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

I work in another state. Can I apply?
Individuals employed by animal control or animal sheltering agencies outside Kentucky may participate in one of two ways. You can join KACCA as an associate member or by paying a $50 registration fee per program, space permitting. Priority will be giving to Kentucky agencies.

How long does it take to complete?
The Animal Care Technician program takes about 2 hours to complete while the Basic Animal Control Officer program is approximately 12 hours.

Can our agency sign up for more than one employee?
YES! We started with 100 training spots in order to get Kentucky animal shelters and animal control officers ahead of the game. That number will reduce over time so sign up today.

Are there other programs available?
Not at this time but we will be adding more programs over the next year. KACCA members will have access to more advanced programs in the near future. Sign up for our email alerts and you will be the first to know!
